2021 Royal Copenhagen Christmas Plate – Winter in the Garden On a branch among the birch trees of the garden, the little wren keeps a close eye on the bird table, ready to enjoy his next meal. But the wren never worries about his next meal; he overwinters in Denmark and is accustomed to sharing the treats of the bird table with his friends of the forest. The Royal Copenhagen Annual Plates have been issued every year since 1908. The relief for the motif has been hand-cut by Royal Copenhagen’s talented modelling artists based on a drawing of the motif by artist, Allan Therkelsen, and the relief has been cut according to proud craftsmanship traditions. Again this year, the Royal Copenhagen Annual Plate is accompanied by a figurine, a little wren.

About the maker

Royal Copenhagen

Royal Copenhagen has been part of Danish table traditions since 1775, when the Danish Porcelain Manufactory was founded under royal patronage. Blue Fluted Plain, its first signature pattern, established the blue-and-white language that still connects many of its collections.

Across generations, the house has combined porcelain craftsmanship with new interpretations of familiar forms. A plate or holiday piece can be used, displayed, and passed along, carrying a small part of that long Danish design story with it.

Windmill testimony

A Million Stars

“If I could give this place a million stars I would. It is an oasis in Iowa. Here you find an authentic 1848 Danish windmill brought over from Denmark and lot of interesting Danish and Viking cultural items, a fantastic gift shop with a huge selection and things you can't find anywhere else (like Aebelskiver cast iron pans!) and a friendly and knowledgeable staff. What more could you ask for? It's really worth it to make a stop here!”
