An inspiring new book from the bestselling author of The Little Book of Hygge about how to use space, light, and Danish design to transform your home to fit your needs. Now more than ever before, our homes need to be a place of comfort, a place to feel safe when we shut the door. Our homes are where we can truly be ourselves, unwind, and create special memories with our family and friends. Inspired by Danish design and traditions, this beautiful new book from Meik Wiking shows us how to turn our home into a cozy sanctuary and live a bit like the happiest people in the world—the Danes. Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) is the art of surrounding yourself in comfort and is at the core of Danish culture in creating a happy space. With simple tips based on new research from The Happiness Institute in Copenhagen, this book reveals what makes a happy home: including the difference between space and size, the importance of lighting, and how to foster better connections with our loved ones. No matter how much space you have or what your budget is, Meik explains how you can use color, light, and space to create your happy place and celebrate coziness the Danish way. Meik Wiking is a happiness researcher and founded the world's first Happiness Research Institute in 2013, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He is a New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author whose three globally bestselling books have sold over 2 million copies worldwide: The Little Book of Hygge, The Little Book of Lykke, and The Art of Making Memories. He has been called The Indiana Jones of Smiles and probably the World's Happiest Man by The Times.

Danish Windmill · A shop with a story

Troll testimony

Lots of History and Small Town Charm

“A beautiful, authentic working Danish windmill. I learned not every windmill is the same. Lots of history to learn. Very cool to tour the inside and learn about how it was transported from Denmark. You can tour the inside the windmill and walk up a few floors even walk outside on the catwalk around the windmill. The grounds are well kept and feature a neat Viking house replica. A tiny church. A wooden troll and gnome home. A great gift shop full of Danish imports. I liked that the gift shop had a variety of pamphlets of other interesting things to do around the area.”

Warm and Cozy

“Shopping at the windmill is always an adventure! I always know I'm going to find more than what I came for and their selection is always fresh with new items to bring home. They always have this ability to bring coziness and warmth into my home. I bought this ceramic house and had so much fun painting it. Now it glows in my living room every night! ”

The Little Winter Book of Gnomes

A cozy book of gnomes (and gnomes), just in time for the holidays Similar to the Norwegian nisser Kirsten grew up hearing about, gnomes have always fascinated her. When she realized that a “gnome” was also another word for a proverb, Kirsten brought the two together. The result is a charming collection of Scandinavian wisdom accented by whimsical illustrations. There are gnome women chopping wood (“chop your own wood and it will warm you twice”), men surreptitiously knitting (“two balls of yarn
