Anne Beate Design - Shepherd with Wife and Sheep

The shepherds in the fields are here symbolized by this shepherd and his sheep.These beautiful wooden figures were first produced back in the 1970´ties and for some unknown reason the shepherd got a wife then. When we decided to take up production of these special figures in 2006, we did not have the heart to take her away from him. Anyway, shepherds must have had wives too, then.The figures today are made exactly like the first ones and are of course hand-painted.

Anne Beate Design has been creating Danish nisser with character since 1963. The little figures grow out of a much older Nordic folklore tradition, but each one has the expressive face, clothing, and personality of the Anne-Beate family.

The designs and prototypes begin in Denmark. Skilled hands complete many of the small craft steps in a workshop near Hanoi before the figures return to Denmark for finishing and quality checks. New characters join the collection over time, inviting families to bring out old favorites and add fresh stories to their Christmas traditions.
