In Vagrant Viking he chronicles his exploits from Copenhagen to Siberia to Hollywood. Together with fellow polar explorer Knud Rasmussen, Freuchen established the Greenland trading station of Thule, and spent many years living amongst the indigenous people of the region. During World War II Freuchen served in occupied Denmark's anti-Nazi underground and survived being imprisoned and sentenced to death by the Germans. His subsequent life of countless travels and adventure took him from the United Nations to Hollywood, where he mixed with notables on the world stage, movie stars, and beauty queens. During all these years, Freuchen wrote, leaving a body of work that includes both fiction and memoirs, all rich with an experienced storyteller's sense of action, romance, and dry wit. He authored Book of the Eskimos and other fascinating works about exploring and living in the amazing world of the Arctic. All of his works portray a person determined to live life to the fullest, and at that he succeeded with extraordinary spirit and courage.

Mange Tak

“I love the hospitality of hygge you feel upon entering the Danish Windmill! A friendly staff, a thorough tour of the inner-workings of the windmill itself, and a shopping experience that has both traditional and modern Danish offerings — the Windmill appeals to all ages, and will have you saying, “Mange tak!” ”

Lots of History and Small Town Charm

“A beautiful, authentic working Danish windmill. I learned not every windmill is the same. Lots of history to learn. Very cool to tour the inside and learn about how it was transported from Denmark. You can tour the inside the windmill and walk up a few floors even walk outside on the catwalk around the windmill. The grounds are well kept and feature a neat Viking house replica. A tiny church. A wooden troll and gnome home. A great gift shop full of Danish imports. I liked that the gift shop had a variety of pamphlets of other interesting things to do around the area.”

The Little Winter Book of Gnomes

A cozy book of gnomes (and gnomes), just in time for the holidays Similar to the Norwegian nisser Kirsten grew up hearing about, gnomes have always fascinated her. When she realized that a “gnome” was also another word for a proverb, Kirsten brought the two together. The result is a charming collection of Scandinavian wisdom accented by whimsical illustrations. There are gnome women chopping wood (“chop your own wood and it will warm you twice”), men surreptitiously knitting (“two balls of yarn
